Pema Lhamo is a 17-year-old Class 9 student at Nganglam Central School, originally from Decheling in Pemagatshel. Despite her strong commitment to education, Pema faces significant personal and financial challenges. She lives with her father, who is unable to work following a leg surgery and struggles with alcoholism. Pema has been without the support of her mother for the past three years. While she has three older brothers, each is focused on supporting their own families, leaving Pema with minimal financial assistance and vulnerable. To make ends meet, Pema takes on seasonal work as a salesgirl during winter breaks in Phuentsholing. Even with her efforts, she often struggles to afford basic necessities, including essential hygiene products. Yet, her resilience and dedication to her education remain unwavering.
